Ultrasonic Nondestructive Evaluation Systems: Models and Measurements provides the latest information and techniques available for ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation (NDE) inspections. Using a systems level approach, this book employs aspects of Fourier analysis, linear system theory, and wave propagation and scattering theory to develop a comprehensive model of an entire ultrasonic measurement system. The book also describes in detail the measurements needed to obtain all the system model parameters. This integrated approach leads to a new model-based engineering technology for designing, using and optimizing ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation inspections. Practicing engineers, teachers, and students alike will learn about the latest developments in NDE technology, including a recently developed pulse-echo method for measuring the sensitivity of an ultrasonic transducer, and the use of Gaussian beam theory in simulating the wave fields generated by ultrasonic transducers. In addition, this unique book incorporates MATLAB examples and exercises which allow readers to conduct simulated inspections and implement the latest modeling technology. Written by recognized experts in NDE research, Ultrasonic Nondestructive Evaluation Systems: Models and Measurements is designed to combine well-developed techniques with the latest advances in technology.

The ultrasonic time of flight diffraction technique (TOFD) is a routine method for defect detection and sizing performance in engineering structures. The first book by the authors, published in 1989, provided comprehensive information on the theoretical background, practical implementation and performance of the technique. Their method is now widely used and has been adopted as one of the essential tools. This second edition has brought the previous book up to date by including new material on the theoretical basis, experimental demonstration of capability and engineering applications of TOFD. The book will also include a chapter on standards, citing work on British and European standards. 1 customer reviews Great book. July 7, 2007 If your looking for a good book on the technical areas of TOFD this is the book to buy. I have used it a great deal and it has been very useful to me.

Ultrasonic Methods of Non-Destructive Testing covers the basic principles and practices of ultrasonic testing, starting with the basic theory of vibration and propagation, design and properties and probes, and then proceeding to the principles and practice of the various ultrasonic techniques for different types of components and structures, both metallic and non-metallic. The design and operation of various types of equipment are covered and references to appropriate national and international standards are provided. Numerous applications are discussed comprehensively and special attention is paid to latest developments. A large number of references is provided so as to enable the reader to obtain further information.

Most books on ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation (NDE) focus either on its theoretical background or on advanced applications. Furthermore, information on the most current applications, such as guided wave techniques and acoustic microscopy, is scattered throughout various conference proceedings and journals. No one book has integrated these aspects into a treatment that is both self-contained and up-to-date. Ultrasonic Nondestructive Evaluation: Engineering and Biological Material Characterization brings together the principles, equations, and applications of ultrasonic NDE, both traditional and state-of-the-art, in a single, authoritative resource. It begins with the relevant fundamentals of mechanics, derives the basic equations of the mechanics of elastic wave propagation, and then, step-by-step, covers the advanced topics and applications of ultrasonic NDE that are at the forefront of today's research. These include engineering, biological, and clinical applications, such as structural health monitoring, the characterization of biological cells, and real-time blood flow measurement. Written in plain language by some of the world's leading experts, the chapters are filled with case studies, worked examples, and exercises that help make this book an outstanding resource for course work, as well as for reference. If you are looking for that one book that can bring you quickly up-to-speed on the principles, technologies, and latest applications of ultrasonic NDE, look no further than this book.
